While most collectible automobile insurance policies are relatively similar, the way carriers classify different types of collectible vehicles, including some types they exclude coverage for, is important to understand. Although definitions, years and descriptions can vary from insurer to insurer and state to state, the most common collectible auto categories are below. We followed a similar methodology to our review of nationwide auto insurance providers, taking a deep dive into the offerings of the five largest insurance providers in Arkansas. We examined each insurer’s financial stability, using ratings from A.M. Best, to determine whether each insurer would have enough financial resources to pay off expensive claims. We also looked at customer service ratings from industry leaders J.D. Power and Consumer Reports, evaluating customers’ overall experience with each insurer and their satisfaction with the claims process. Though each provider has its own strengths and weaknesses, we recommend obtaining multiple quotes from different insurers before making your decision.
We collected quotes from a variety of insurance companies across 2,700 towns and cities in the U.S, for 128 insurance companies. Our sample driver was a 30 year old male who drove a 2011 Toyota Camry. To obtain quotes, we kept parameters for getting coverage the same, such as that he was single, and had a clean driving record. The only parameter that changed was the zip code where he lived in the U.S. The amount of coverage we opted for gave our driver bit more than what is required of state minimums.
Farmers Insurance fell just shy of the benchmark we set for financial stability. It took earned an “A” from A.M. Best (passing), and an “A” from S&P Global (two steps below the required “AA-”). These scores mean that Farmers has strong financials, and offers solid backing for your policy — it’s just a little less likely to weather a major financial crisis than other companies. This is why, like Liberty Mutual, we don’t rank it among the best of the best.
